Ocular Health Assessment and Monitoring
Not all eye examinations are the same. At Berowra Eye Studio we have the imaging equipment to ensure any eye conditions are detected well before you notice any vision loss. This almost always improves visual outcomes. We also allow the time to properly assess your eyes and discuss results in depth with you. We regularly co-manage complex eye conditions with local ophthalmologists, meaning better overall care for you and, in many cases, less required specialists appointments.
Contact Lens fitting
As a long-term contact lens wearer herself, Nicky enjoys helping her patients explore their contact lens options. All too often people conclude that they are unsuitable for contact lens wear, when in fact, they just haven’t found the right lens solution for their particular eyes and circumstances, or they haven’t been given the time needed to learn insertion and removal effectively. Contact lenses allow great freedom from glasses wear and we love to help people experience that.
Paediatric Vision Assessment
Testing the eyes of children is one of the most fun and rewarding parts of Nicky’s day. All children should have regular eye exams from school age, or earlier if any symptoms are seen by parents. Children with any form of learning difficulties should be carefully examined to rule out possible visual causes.
Myopia Management
Myopia, or short-sightedness, is increasing in our young population at an alarming rate. If left untreated it poses significant risk to ocular health. As a high myope herself, Nicky has kept at the forefront of myopia control research and ensures that her young patients are offered the best treatment for their prescription and lifestyle.
Diabetic Eye Assessment
With our advanced imaging equipment, such as Optos ultrawide imaging and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), we can perform your diabetic ocular health assessment each year. Left unchecked, diabetes has the potential to be devastating to a person’s vision, and regular assessment utilising the appropriate imaging is a crucial preventative measure.
Meet Nicky Dayton
Nicky Dayton has been caring for the eyes of the Berowra community for the better part of the last two decades. Starting her career as an optometrist at David Hendry Optometrist, Berowra and Westleigh in 2004, she honed her optometric skills at a practice known to be well ahead of the curve in terms of advanced eye care, utilising equipment that was cutting edge and not common outside of eye specialist clinics at the time.
Nicky continues to value exceptional ocular health checks above all else, believing in the importance of the prevention and management of eye disease through timely detection and intervention. This is why Berowra Eye Studio has invested in the most advanced imaging and testing equipment available, allowing us to detect, manage and co-manage many eye diseases with local ophthalmologists.
Nicky has a special interest in paediatric optometry, particularly myopia management. She is also currently undergoing further education in behavioural optometry.
As a long-term contact lens wearer herself, Nicky loves to help her patients explore their contact lens options. She truly believes that many unsuccessful contact lens wearers have simply not found the right product for their eyes and lifestyle.
Outside of work, Nicky enjoys spending time with her family, including two children and two dogs. She has a long history of working in dog rescue and has even dabbled in lion conservation for a time. She has studied the vision of the New Zealand guide dog population, and hopes to one day return to Africa to do the same with the lions she grew to love whilst there.
